Opportunity to join the RCUK Committee!
We are looking for new committee members!
Reef Conservation UK (RCUK) is a UK-based networking group and annual meeting for reef scientists, conservationists and enthusiasts to discuss and collaborate on issues related to coral reef research and conservation. The annual meeting and other RCUK activities are organised by a committee composed of people from a range of institutions including universities and NGOs. For more information on our history and vision for the future please see this recent article: https://doi.org/10.3389/fmars.2020.00364.
We are looking for several new passionate early career reef enthusiasts to join the RCUK organising committee. We’re very keen to hear new diverse voices on the committee; and are particularly interested in new members from organisations currently not represented, or from sectors currently under represented (e.g. government agencies, NGOs, the marine aquarium industry etc). Our aim is to refresh the committee with people who bring new ideas, energy, and vision to move RCUK forward. This could include implementing changes to the conference format or creating additional activities or events to better serve the UK reef community. Existing committee members will remain on the committee, and planning is already underway for RCUK 2022 - so new committee members will have support and guidance.
The committee is composed entirely of volunteers, with support provided by the Zoological Society of London. All activities are mutually agreed by committee members, and are primarily focused around organising the annual RCUK meeting. Therefore, new committee members would have substantial scope to drive future RCUK vision.
Based on current committee activities, anticipated time commitment:
Please fill out the following form to apply to join the RCUK committee by the 28 March 2022:

Based on current committee activities, anticipated time commitment:
- New committee members should anticipate being able to join RCUK coordination calls held during UK business hours and conduct tasks to support committee activities throughout the year. This is an approximately 1–3 hour commitment per month from January - August each year.
- In the build up to the annual conference there are additional activities that require support. This includes event planning, scientific conference programme and app development, abstract submission screening, budget management, etc amongst other activities. This is equivalent to approximately 3–5 day total time commitment between September–December each year.
- We would ask that those expressing interest in joining the committee be willing to commit to helping for at least 3 years.
- All RCUK committee members assist in a purely voluntary role. However, committee members have their travel, accommodation, subsistance, and registration fees covered to attend the annual RCUK conference.
