COVID contingency:
The RCUK conference aims to facilitate networking and new collaborations, improve information exchange, and provide opportunities for early career professionals to showcase their work – especially within the UK-based coral reef community. We therefore—as a small national conference—strongly believe in the value of in person opportunities to meet. Though RCUK is UK-based, we are open to and welcome all regardless of location.
Given the current COVID situation we are closely monitoring UK and Scottish government advice and will adapt the RCUK conference as necessary. While we recognise this uncertainty in the conference may be frustrating, we hope by being transparent in our decision making you can better plan:

- Our current plan is to hold the conference in person on 27 November 2021 at Dynamic Earth, Edinburgh.
- The event will follow all recommended COVID safety protocols by the UK and Scottish governments. These measures currently include:
- Asking people to check-in at the venue with the NHS Covid-app (as you would to a venue, cafe or bar).
- Limiting venue capacity to ~50% of their normal capacity, to enable ample spacing.
- Social distancing will be in place.
- Requiring delegates to wear masks, unless eating, drinking or presenting (or they are exempt).
- Providing copious hand-washing and sanitising stations.
- The caterers are providing a COVID safe buffet and drinks.
- We request attendees take a lateral flow test before the event (<24 hours before the start) and not attend if positive.
- We are fully committed to running an in-person conference in Edinburgh. However, if public health advice changes - suggesting that an in person meeting will not be possible, we will shift RCUK to a virtual event.
